Times are bad, and everyone seem to be complaining about the economic downturn. But now is not the time to complain. All savvy business owners know that now is the best time to adopt a proactive approach. Maybe you can consider starting a new business. After all, purchases tend to be cheaper these days. Perhaps you can stumble upon some unbelievably good deals on the Internet.

But the Internet is a huge place. So where do you start? Here are some suggestions.

Step 1: Visit a trade lead directory.

If you are going to start a business online, might as well think big and go International. The Internet is a great way to connect with suppliers and customers from all over the world. Start by visiting a trade directory. You will see for yourself the wide range of products that are available. But don’t do any buying yet. Proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Market research.

This is an essential step. If you skip this step, you are just risking your money unnecessarily. Make sure that there is a profit to be made before jumping on the wagon and placing a wholesale order. Otherwise, you may find yourself stuck with all that inventory, with no visible ways of getting rid of them. Poor research always lead to poor business decisions.

If you want to save a little time, you can always purchase a research report. For instance, if you are not sure if leather furniture will sell well in your country, you can buy a relevant report so that you can examine the numbers. Is there a rising demand for the products? Who are these people? Who are your competitors? You need to know the answers to these questions before making the leap.

Step 3: Have a marketing plan.

Knowing that there is market demand is one thing. But knowing how to reach out to your target customers is a totally different thing. Ask yourself how you are going to market those products to the customers. Will you do so online? Are there networks you can tap into? Again, this requires more research. But having a practical marketing plan is half the battle won.

Step 4: Actually doing it.

Don’t let fear stop you if you have done your homework and you are confident that you have a good chance of success. Proceed to request for quotations. Choose your suppliers carefully. Don’t just base your decision on price. You want a relatively hassle free shipment. If you choose the wrong supplier, you end up being the recipient of sub quality products.

Step 5: Manage your cash flow.

Your import/export business depends on how you manage your cash flow. Don’t be greedy and place orders that will affect your cash flow adversely. Always leave room for error if you are unsure.

A good approach to adopt when you are just starting out is to place an order for a variety of products, each in a small quantity. With the products bundled together, you still get to enjoy wholesale prices. Once you determine which are the better selling products, just focus more on those products.
Watch the video related to import export

In the recent few weeks, several thousands of civilians have been victims of floods in the West African regions…you can follow the CNN at the bottom of the text body. ; So far 300 people have died as a results of the floodings.
This is an illustration that Construction, while stagnant in the United States, is greatly needed in these regions of the world. The only reason why heavy rains are causing floods in regions that are considered deserts is because of poor infrastructures.

Better Storm water management systems such as ponds or sewer systems with wider piping could prevent this disasters from occurring. US Contractors would breathe a sigh of relief by taking on these infrastructure projects since bidding in the United States is basically a lost cause. Projects that typically had about 3 of 4 bidders now have 20 to 25 bidders, also many contractors are bidding below costs just to have some sort of cash flow (“LowBallers”).

Because of this fierce competition in America, Contractors should start working overseas and more precisely in parts of the world where construction work is needed the most. America has a lot to sell, there are still many products manufactured in the USA…though our exporting statistics are shameful: the United States of America imports five times more than it exports to Africa. This means we buy five times more than we sell to African nations, if that’s not one of the reasons why we are in a recession then what is?

We’re about head-to-head with France in terms of exporting to Sub-Saharan Africa, even though we produce a lot more than France. The problem is mainly because American Businesses visualize United States as the whole world while other nations have a global vision of the world, we lose many markets to other countries because we fail to enter foreign markets at the right time.

China has been building infrastructures and other monuments in Africa for a long time, there already many Chinese businesses installed in African nations and doing very well for themselves. They have understood the various benefits they can obtain from partnerships with Sub-Saharan nations: a consumer market, energy resources, mining and the list goes on.

America could do a lot better than China, because we have a lot of products easily marketable in the Sub-Sahara region and frankly we need the consumer market to sell the goods not being sold currently. Yes, it is a consumer market in Africa and ignoring it is very bad for our economy now and for the future.

Import can be simply defined as bringing a good or commodity from one country to another by adhering to the legal norms and procedures for trade purposes. Imported goods are produced by foreign producers and meant for domestic consumers. Import in commercial quantities requires the consent of the custom authorities in both the countries-the on which exports and the on which imports.

Transporting a good or a commodity from one country to another for use in trade is defined as export. This process requires restricting to legal norms and procedures. Export forma an important and basic component of international trade. Export goods are manufactured by domestic producers for foreign consumers.

Import and export form the very basics of international trade. International trade is a neat umbrella term that is used for all transactions and exchange of goods and services across national barriers. Industrialization, advanced transportation, globalization, multinational corporations, and outsourcing are some of the factors that have led to a boost in international trade.

If you are looking forward to start your own business venture in the field of import-export business then here are some tips for starters. Countries set up their own embassies in foreign countries to promote the exporting of their own goods. These embassies can provide you with industry directories and other useful information. If you are on the importing side the other country’s embassy in your own country can help you find a way out.

Adhering to the legal norms and procedures of your home country is very important or otherwise you can land yourself in your trouble. Contact your country’s taxation department to ask about registration numbers or other procedures that you must follow. You must also find out about any licensing requirements if any.

Certain countries set up trade barriers against other countries which are called as embargoes. Before venturing into export- import you must make sure that there are no embargoes against the country that you are considering to deal with. To doubly check consult that country’s embassy to see if there are restrictions against goods from your country.

The web can also provide you with extensive information regarding international trade. There are many websites that can give you a great deal of information but go for the on that is credible. One such website is fuzing.com. For any related information visit us at www.fuzing.com.

When it comes to the import export business world and international trade, there are some things that can give you an edge. One of these is having a time machine. Not a literal time machine, but a time machine mentality.

With this you can travel (in your mind) to the past, back to the present, and even peek at the future. This ability will let you stay one move ahead of the competition. And with the global marketplace expanding all the time and becoming more and more important, anything you can do to stay one step ahead of your competitors will help you survive and thrive.

Learn from History

It was once said that those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it. When it comes to international trade, as with almost anything else, this is very true. A smart business man will read about the past to be able to know how his company or industry got to where it is.

This doesn’t mean you have to memorize every date and detail, but you should try to understand where your industry began and what happened to it over the years, shaping it. Knowing the history of international trade from ancient times to even the 20th century is a great way to have an edge over others competing for your business, competing for your customers.

Stay Current

Beyond being well versed in the past, it’s important for a modern business man to stay current with International trade laws and other things that could affect his import export business. With technology, it’s easier than ever to stay current with what’s going on in whatever industry you’re in. If you’re good at this, you can have an advantage over others.

To keep your edge, make sure you stay on top of all the latest technology that can help you refine the flow of information that you receive to stay on top of things. This doesn’t mean you should waste money on every new gadget or toy that comes out, but you should be able to recognize new technologies or devices that can give you an edge in the global marketplace.

Predict the Future

No one can accurately predict the future of international trade or anything else for that matter. If you’ve done your homework, though, you can make very educated guesses about where things are going. With this knowledge, you can become one of the early adopters, something that will ensure you get your piece of the pie.

The Import Export business is a constantly changing business. There are patterns, though. There are indicators of where things have been and where they might be going. Being able to tap into these intangible things will make you a much better businessman.

Body:

As is known, Global sourcing is only a business strategy to ensure smoother and cost effective enterprise transformation, accessing new markets using key geographic advantages such as cost differences, labor strengths and time zones. The obvious advantages China business has rests in its geographic location from key markets and major governmental thrust for infrastructural development driven import and export. As we stand today, import and export is driving the whole of China business and with it, the economy.

However, there are contradictory perceptions about import and export from China business rather than global sourcing and nevertheless it’s a controversial issue. Despite this, global is being adapted as a strategic decision; with all its risk/benefit analysis in place. On their part, China and China business houses are surging ahead ironing out issues on the go.

B2B Negotiation makes or breaks Import and export deals in a global sourcing scenario. Business to business sourcing being the current order of any import & export negotiation with foreign trade partners requires a greater understanding of a whole gamut of things including cost structure, banking procedures and cultural differences besides market potential at your end.

B2B on import & export negotiation involves communicating with one another for the purpose of settling down some matter through mutual agreement; thrives on the principles of compromise besides parties making efforts to exchange benefits which strongly supports principles of import and export. If differences and commonalities gain credibility, that B2B negotiation style is considered win-win.

One of the most common mistakes done while carrying out e-commerce is to deal with fake online websites in the name of international trade, import/export or global sourcing and such a mistake just needs common sense to avoid it. For example if an email comes to your account and claims to give you a free product in return for your bank details, just beware of it. Also you could check out the email address if it comes from a strange sort of address it is surely spam mail.

Body:

-The Art of B2B Negotiation

Business to business negotiation, besides debt arbitration is overwhelmingly being accepted by global sourcing and B2B communities. Business to business negotiation requires stronger positions in areas like governmental policies on foreign trade, bargaining power and cultural aspects. Thus, B2B negotiation, for global sourcing must be seen both as an art and science for the issues to be addressed and an agreement is possible. B2B negotiation in case of global sourcing is frequently attached to the making use of tactics, especially in import/export deals.

-Stumbling Blocks to B2B Import and Export

Business to business requires exposure to international culture, especially in an import & export and global sourcing market. No doubt this renders B2B negotiation longer and frustrating when the global sourcing partners are unable to see your point, for any reason for that matter. If import and export or global sourcing deals fail or get prolonged, the main reason to attribute for this are easily the stumbling blocks of B2B negotiations.

-Governments’ role in the B2B and Global Sourcing

Governments, on their part are expediting the steps to eliminate bottlenecks, procedural and legal, in order to ease import/export into US. Once this is in place, import/export from China will no more be screened for security, unless called for. US is also concerned about the diversion of Chinese import & exports away from US. Despite this, import/export with China is surging ahead each year.

Look at the trouble area for import and export in the United State’s global sourcing policy. Chinese import/export of vegetables, seafood, fruits, dairy and poultry products and meat are encountering SPS problems frequently. Export and import of agricultural produces reached US$20 last year and now, China enjoys the priority global sourcing status for import and export since 2005 as a global sourcing destination. Federal level negotiations on removal of bottlenecks to business to business (B2B) resulted in the surging of Chinese exports and a near collapse of import/export from free trade preference countries.

-Major advancement in Import & Export and B2B

Simultaneous to above, China’s import and export in garments/apparels, falling under the quota-free categories have increased by 55%. Whereas, Chinese B2B expands across continents, restrictions over import/export with China is being relaxed gradually. On its part, Chinese officials are concerned about price rise of import/export which could hurt millions who rely on the country’s import/export boom riding on the global sourcing success.

Portugal was once known for its primary industries that produced things like wood, beer, juice and soft drinks. But currently it is know for its secondary and tertiary industries that include top-notch business services and industrial items manufacturing like mold-making. Portugal are also known for software development and automobile manufacturing units. Thus the country has become one of the most chosen destinations for international investors and businessmen.

Previously, the country used to run on an economy that was dependent on public consumption and private investment. This was soon changed to make it export, private investment and the hi-tech sector oriented. The country has been building itself along these lines for quite some time now. So export/import traders will find that the concerned authorities are far more willing to let them start a business in the country than many other restrictive countries.

In many ways, Portugal is an economy that still has a lot of growing years ahead of it. Hence it will become a very good investment to start off right now in the country.

For those have been in the business outside the country for some time now, it is time to establish your business in Portugal in addition to your presence outside it. This is an especially good idea for those who have existing businesses and contacts that are directly or indirectly related to the main industries in Portugal.

This is applicable for both exporters and importers. The important thing here is to make a match to between what Portugal needs and what you can offer. For example, importers will not be entertained in the automobile market because it is what Portugal exports out of the country. However, if you are an electronic items importer, you can easily look in to the consumer sector. You can also import items that are related to automobile manufacturing.

Since the hi-tech sector is a big industry in Portugal that is being given positive attention by the government, you can easily import items that are directly required by this sector. These items can be as simple as entry-level enterprise servers to run the internal networks to the highly specialized machines required by large server-farms and IT security agencies. It can also be something as simple and basic as a proper headset with an attached mic-boom. If you can pitch it right, you can sell it good but you have to know the market first. So always do your homework.

For exporting, you have a lot of finished and unfinished items to export from the major industries like automobile manufacturing. Quality is still a priority in exported material and Portugal has a lot of quality items to choose from even in the non-major industries.

With the country growing rapidly urbanized, industrialized and technologically advanced, it is only a matter of time before it joins some of the bigger players. So if you can get in on it right at the ground floor, it will be nothing but up for you in the coming years.

Watch the video related to import and export

You are a business owner, or perhaps your dream is to start your own business. You have a number of products in mind that you would like to sell, but you are not sure where to begin. You check prices for wholesalers and drop-shippers online. You check out websites of businesses currently doing what you would like to be doing, and you find that the price you would have to pay for product and the price you would have to charge customers to be competitive simply does not leave enough room for profit margin. In some cases, you are even losing money on a transaction altogether.

How can you gain a competitive advantage in such a challenging and unforgiving climate?

For many, this question hits too close to home and sets up a challenge that is often not worth the risk. It is a discouraging obstacle that causes many to throw in the towel before they have even stepped into the ring. But if you do the research, you will see that there is a way.

Through the import and export of goods from other countries, you can succeed, and one of the most helpful places to turn is to the Chinese market. Did you know that China’s GNP is growing every year at a rate of 8%. That means even through tough economic forecasts, you have a wealth of potential customers and suppliers that can keep your business afloat, and elevate it to new levels.

Why Importing and Exporting Supplies from China Works

? Earn a competitive advantage domestically

? Add to your sales and profits

? Open avenues for international trade

? Grab more spotlight for your existing products

? Secure a share of the global market

? Provide stability for your seasonal market

? Makes business expansion easier

? Increase capabilities for greater production

? Minimizes your risk through diversification

? Creates potential for surplus through wider customer base

Key Factors to China Export-Import Success

It is unquestionably more advantageous for you to look at importing and exporting as vital to the success of your business. The positives far outweigh the negatives, but before you begin to invest in the possibilities, you must do your research and protect yourself. Remember, you are doing business with companies you know very little about. Oceans, cultural differences, and language barriers separate you. Do not enter into a business relationship without knowing your legal rights and requirements. Also, research the reputation of an import-export company thoroughly.

As what it takes to succeed in the 21st Century marketplace grows ever more demanding, you cannot afford to leave great moneymaking opportunities on the table. Revenue is the key to your success, and a good relationship with the import-export market is one of the best ways to watch yours grow. Just beware of the pitfalls, and make informed decisions.
The changing face of international trade, mainly due to e-commerce, is forcing a new approach towards import and export as a consequence, although international trade is necessary for prosperity immaterial of its direction. First, international trade, along with import and export is shown to shrink states’ ability to control the economy thanks to global forces. However, if international trade is what you want to get into, you must be aware of controlling forces like exchange rates, governmental policies and how global sourcing operates. For example, services sector is the rapidly growing international trade, of late.

International trade barriers are being broken and the world is moving closer to an integrated global economy of free international trade. There are indications that complementariness between whole ownership and intra-firm import and export leading to reduced global sourcing costs by coordinated global operations, regulatory changes. However, researches point to conditions which allow global sourcing, international trade or bilateral import & export only when preferential agreements are permitted and conversely, the same global sourcing, international trade or bilateral import & export is declined when preferential trade agreements are forbidden.

On a macro scale, import and export provide significant job opportunities multilaterally. Import and export operators, have a social role to play, by providing training along with jobs. International trade has been omnipresent and its economic and social importance can be felt from the rise in increased multilateral import/export triggered by excellence of global sourcing.

International trade thrives much on Ricardian model of comparative advantage the economies will gain through import/export and global sourcing activities and is probably the critical concept for marching ahead. In simple terms, import and export dwells on those goods that make thorough use of domestic advantages and disadvantages respectively through global sourcing strengths of either of the parties.

-Factors Affecting International Trade and Global Sourcing

The premise that demand driven international trade and global sourcing will ensure efficient production and growth differ hugely for lesser countries pointing to the significance of other factors.

Global sourcing, like international trade, helps countries obtain products by import/export route from another country. Besides, international trade allows countries to partake in a global economy. The bottom line is, import and export, like international trade is reinforcing global communities through managed international trade system to produce expected outcomes.

The two faces of international trade- free trade and protectionism keep clashing. It is a critical component of wealth creation.

However, nearly all import export positions require experience and obviously at the entry level I have none to offer. Where does one find a job in import export where the company is willing to provide on the job training? It is the vicious cycle as usual in the job market: every employer wants job candidates to have experience, but no candidate gains experience unless some employer first hires him without it.

Any suggestions?

In today’s shrinking world, there is hardly any business transacted which does not require goods and services to cross national shores. Import and export activity is routine for many businesses, and the lifeblood of others. No doubt, you have used imported materials in your company before, but if this is the first time that you are importing or exporting something directly yourself, the following checklist will help you.

It is said that international trade does not deal with goods or services, but with documents. Strange, but true! The importance of correct paperwork cannot be overstated when it comes to import and export transactions. If you’re the type who cannot abide paperwork, may we suggest that you hire someone who can! Documentation is crucial to international trade, and there’s plenty of it to deal with.

The documents required to successfully complete an import and export transaction vary from country to country, but broadly they will cover the following:

Purchase order – sure, this is a business requirement, but a purchase order may also be needed by the buyer or seller for arranging finance. A bank may ask the importer for a copy before it issues a letter of credit to him, which will be used to pay the exporter. On the other hand the exporter might be able to get financing from his bank, on the basis of a confirmed order (also called purchase order financing).

Letter of credit – this is used for making payments for imported goods, once the necessary documents are handed over (see, we told you they were important). A letter of credit basically says that the importer’s bank guarantees to pay provided all the papers stipulated in it are in order.

Shipment documents – a bill of lading is needed for sea shipments or an airway bill when goods are sent by plane, as proof of dispatch.

Certificates of origin – some countries have restrictions on the volume of business that can be done with other countries. Alternatively, there may be tariff benefits accorded to goods from specific supply sources. In such cases, an exporter will need to submit a Certificate of Origin, which is endorsed by a designated regulatory authority or Chamber of Commerce.

Quality or inspection certificates – if the buyer specifies an inspection prior to shipment, be sure he wants to see some proof of that on paper!

Packing list – finally, something that makes sense! How would you like to receive a container full of cartons with no clue as to which one contains what item?

Invoice – but of course! Make sure you’ve written everything correctly, including the currency of transaction.

Others(!) – these are specific requirements, and change from country to country. For example, Australia has stringent quarantine restrictions governing the trade of food and animal products. You would need to secure a permit, or subject your goods to an inspection or both.

This might seem like a long list, but is in no way exhaustive. That is why you need to hire someone who understands import and export documentation, so that you can be sure that your international business proceeds smoothly.
