Can someone give me information on the import/export business please?Is anyone involved in the import export business and can give me valuable information. I am looking to start an import export business but am currently brainstorming and asking people question about what they lack to maybe find products that are in high demand but not enough supply…I have the starting capital i just need some opinions and thoughts.. I will base some of the products out of the Panama Free zone. I am looking to export to the Caribbean, central and south America. Can anyone give me their opinions??????

You really need to understand that a lot of what you use on a daily bases comes from China. Much of what is in your American made car come from China. Your computer is another item, as well as your clothes, the motor inside your washing machine, etc.
Yes, China makes junk to satisfy that market as well as good quality stuff.
Take off your blinders and start doing some research. It's not cut and dry as you think.

You might have to talk to a customs broker. They can arrange pretty much the entire thing. There are a lot of fees and charges involved, and if anything is missing/wrong on your paperwork, then your stuff could get snagged in customs. I'm in the process of doing the same thing right now, but once I learned about all the costs of just importing my stuff, I have to renegotiate my prices with my Chinese suppliers in order to make it a profitable venture for myself.
I import from China, it's easy and profitable. Most things make it past customes no problem, but be sure to have some cash on hand if they tag you and be prepared for long waits if customs holds your package (I waited 4 weeks) .
Go to your states web site, file and get a business license. (if you don't at least charge sales tax for your state they will go after you hammer and tongs) Go to the IRS and get a tax identification number for your business. And by all means… open a separate bank account for your business … it can cause real problems if you don't.
